Episode IV - A new beginning . . .

Because Anita is a smart cookie and I want to stop her wasting her life.

There's been some to-do over whether she's entitled to continue calling herself a straight-A student, due to a Meanie Professor™, but if, as she says, she has the opportunity to correct the record I'm happy to allow the truth to stretch a little.   I have no doubt that Anita is capable of the academic achievements she claims.

But I think I need to add the proviso that she will need to get past this whole paranormal thing in order to do so.

Whatever the reason for Anita's behaviour, she needs to realize that it's incompatible with her desire to become a reputable scientist.   Sure, you can be a reputable scientist and have a few whacky ideas, as Messrs Kelvin, Hubble and Tesla might attest, but you have to do it in the right order.

I want to play a part in steering Anita towards getting the reputation she's capable of as a worthy scientist, and take up the whacky stuff as a retirement hobby after a long and illustrious career in a legitimate endeavour.

All I ask is that she might scratch my cartouche on the bottom of her Nobel award, just for old times sake.

Episode V - The Empire strikes back . . .

Because one day Anita hopes to become part of established, mainstream science.    I sincerely hope so too, but there's work to be done.

What I DON'T want to see is Anita continuing her current course, with regard to both her apparent disregard of basic scientific principles and her views on the paranormal.

The teaching and doing of science, notably in the USA of recent times, has too often been hamstrung by the Dark Side of ignorance and superstition, and I would hate to see Anita being drawn into that, armed with the legitimately acquired credentials bestowed on her by an objective, but not omniscient, education system.   The Creation Museum people and their ilk, with THEIR portfolios of degrees are the sort of thing I'm alluding to.

I want Anita to join the Rebel Alliance, and help finally put an end to the days where belief trumps evidence, and I hope this site can help steer her back to the Force of proper scientific method and critical thinking.
